The sessions focused on helping facilitators and volunteers feel confident leading practical, respectful conversations about money with parents.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"337\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"339\" data-end=\"452\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This matters because when adults have the tools to plan, save, and talk openly about money, children benefit too.<\/span><\/p><h2 data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"475\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Why parents matter<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"744\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In many families, money decisions are made under pressure. Bills, school needs, and unexpected costs can quickly become overwhelming. When parents have simple skills like setting a goal, tracking spending, and spotting risky offers daily life becomes more manageable.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"744\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"874\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">That is the idea behind the Financial Literacy Module for parents and caregivers, which is designed for workshop style delivery.<\/span><\/p><h2 data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"901\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Three days to practise<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"1051\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The main training ran from nine to eleven February and lasted 24 hours. It was facilitated by Milo\u0161 Zorica and Kristina Drini, both master trainers.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"1051\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1200\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In total, 27 participants took part. The group included 15 facilitators and 12 volunteers, with Aflatoun staff also involved in coordination roles.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1200\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1332\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Participants received the module itself and supporting materials, alongside presentations and activities used during the training.<\/span><\/p><h2 data-start=\"1334\" data-end=\"1354\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Learning by doing<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1392\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The training aimed to do two things.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1392\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1660\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">First, it helped facilitators understand the structure of the module and how to adapt it to local realities, including a gender equality lens. Second, it prepared them to facilitate workshops with parents using hands-on methods, including mock sessions and feedback.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1660\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1892\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The trainers used a mix of short theory inputs and interactive practice. That included icebreakers, group discussions, role play, case studies, and small-group work, with participants documenting ideas on posters and sticky notes.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1892\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"2139\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This \u201clearn by doing\u201d approach was important because many participants were new to financial literacy as a topic. Around 70% reported they did not have prior knowledge or experience in this area, and that made them even more motivated to engage.<\/span><\/p><h2 data-start=\"2141\" data-end=\"2171\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A joint day with volunteers<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"2173\" data-end=\"2310\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The training was delivered across three days, with two days focused on the facilitators and part of the third day bringing in volunteers.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2173\" data-end=\"2310\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2580\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Practice sessions were a turning point. Facilitators initially felt nervous about practising, but after meeting volunteers, doing a joint icebreaker, and running mock sessions with volunteers playing the role of parents, facilitators felt more empowered and motivated.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2580\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"2582\" data-end=\"2749\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This is a simple but powerful insight: confidence often grows fastest when people have a safe space to practise, make mistakes, and try again with supportive feedback.<\/span><\/p><h2 data-start=\"2751\" data-end=\"2782\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A focused day for volunteers<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"2784\" data-end=\"2884\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On 12 February, a separate eight-hour training supported the volunteers. There were 12 participants.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2784\" data-end=\"2884\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"2886\" data-end=\"3076\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The goal was to help volunteers understand the module and their role in supporting delivery. Like the facilitators\u2019 training, it used interactive methods and practice sessions with feedback.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2886\" data-end=\"3076\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"3078\" data-end=\"3385\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The trainers observed strong engagement throughout the day. Volunteers participated actively, asked questions, and shared experiences. They also noted that 90% of volunteers said they did not have previous knowledge or experience with financial literacy, which helped explain the high energy in discussions.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3078\" data-end=\"3385\">\u00a0<\/p><h2 data-start=\"3387\" data-end=\"3417\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">What participants took away<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"3419\" data-end=\"3525\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Across both trainings, participants followed the materials well, and key concepts were understood clearly.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3419\" data-end=\"3525\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"3527\" data-end=\"3683\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Both groups rated the training very highly, with an average score of 5.0 out of 5.0. Several participants said the training was useful and should be longer.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3527\" data-end=\"3683\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3963\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">One practical point stood out: facilitators spent time on how to clearly inform parents about the programme to avoid misunderstandings or mismatched expectations. That kind of preparation can make a big difference, especially when introducing a new topic in a preschool context.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3963\">\u00a0<\/p><h2 data-start=\"3965\" data-end=\"3987\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">What they want next<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"3989\" data-end=\"4072\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Participants and trainers shared several suggestions for improving future sessions.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"3989\" data-end=\"4072\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4249\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">From the volunteer training, key suggestions included more joint learning moments with facilitators, a longer training with more breaks, and an added focus on public speaking.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4249\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"4251\" data-end=\"4502\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">From the facilitators\u2019 training, suggestions included spending more time adapting the agenda to what participants already know, using early check-ins to tailor time across sessions, and potentially extending the training to four days due to the scope.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"4251\" data-end=\"4502\">\u00a0<\/p><h2 data-start=\"4504\" data-end=\"4524\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">What happens next<\/span><\/h2><p data-start=\"4526\" data-end=\"4690\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">These trainings were about readiness: building the skills, shared understanding, and confidence to deliver workshops that feel practical and respectful for parents.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"4526\" data-end=\"4690\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"4692\" data-end=\"4923\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Next comes the real test\u2014delivery with parents and caregivers, in real settings, with facilitators and volunteers working side by side.
